The Social Environment

The social environment at Beta Sig promotes brotherhood, confidence, and strength of character through numerous functions throughout the year. What do we do? Take a look below and find a glimpse of the opportunities available to you at Beta Sigma Psi!

Community Service

During a member's life at Beta Sigma Psi, they are asked to do things that will help the community more than themselves. Every year during homecoming, our house volunteers our time for different community service projects instead of doing Lawn Display. Here at Beta Sigma Psi, we encourage people to volunteer their time to different organizations through the year, not just when we can get benefit from it through competitions during Homecoming or Greek Week.

Formal Dinners

Throughout the semester, Beta Sigma Psi has different occasions for Formal Dinners at the house. Some of these occasions are Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines, and Easter Dinners. Our Cook, John Anderson, feeds us a very nice sitdown meal. We have waiters who serve us food, and bring us what we need instead of people getting up during dinner to get different things.

Homecoming

During the month of October, Iowa State University celebrates their Alumni coming back to the college with a Homecoming Football game and activities. Greeks at ISU usually do the same. The week starts off with sports tournaments, and Yell Like Hell. Yell Like Hell is a chance for at Greeks to show their Iowa State Spirit off by performing a skit about a centralized Homecoming Theme. The reason for the yelling is to make sure that everybody can hear you, since no microphones are allowed.

Beta Sigma Psi finishes off the week by holding an Alumni Meeting at our chapter house, or at a tent down by Jack Trice Stadium. This is a great way for all members, young and old to meet other current, or older Beta Sigs.

Greek Week

Every year in late March or early April, every house in the Greek Community gets together for a week just for them, which is known as Greek Week. The week is filled with many different activities which are there just to have fun with other people in the Greek Community. During the week, there are many different tournaments that can be played in by member of the "Greek Week Pairing", which usually consists of one sorority and two fraternities. Mid-week, there are Lip Sync performances, where every pairing gets to show off their dance/acting talents while lip syncing to a melody of songs. The performance has to have a certain theme to go along with it.

On Saturday of Greek Week, everybody gets together for Greek Olympics. This is a series of events held all day long which are there to test the skills of members from each pairing, where they are matched up against other people from different pairings. There are individual winners of each event, then there is an overall winner of the Olympics crowned after everything is done. All of the events were created to make them fun, and challenging for everybody.
