Scholarship at Beta Sigma Psi

Here at Beta Sigma Psi we place great emphasis in our member's academic success. Our scholarship program is constantly one of the best here at Iowa State. In the fall of 2006 we had a combined house GPA of 3.10. This placed us 4th among fraternities at Iowa State. Our house GPA was above both the Interfraternity average of 2.95 and the All Men's Average of 2.83 for the Fall 2006 Term.

From the day you move in, you will find a network of brothers willing to help you academically. We positively motivate our new-member classes to succeed scholastically during their first year in class by teaching good study habits, helping them set up study groups, and being around when questions on homework arise. Many of our older members help out the younger members by suggesting the best classes to take, who are the good / bad professors, and sharing lessons learned from earlier years. New members are given an older roommate who can help guide them to a very successful first year.

To help set up a positive study environment, our house has study hours every from 7 - 10 p.m and quiet hours from 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday every week. During dead week and finals week we have 23.5 hours of quiet to promote a good study environment. During the "Loud Half-Hour" from 10 - 10:30 p.m., we have study treats that are made for us by our wonderful cook. We take that time to relax and gather our sanity again before it is time to start studying.

As members get further along in their college career, they realize how important study groups are so that they can do their best in every class. At Beta Sigma Psi, we help teach our new-members how important these groups are earlier during their life at college. We do this by helping them form in-house study groups in the common freshman classes, such as Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics.

We have Ethernet running to every room in the house, and 4 computers in our computer room. This is all brought together by 10/100 megabit per second switches, which are connected into a 1.2-megabit per second (fast) DSL line. We also have a wireless network so those of you with laptops do not have to be held down by wires.

You WILL succeed academically at Beta Sigma Psi!
